About the Collection
CeCe collaborated with fashion designer Alexandra O’Neill of Markarian to curate the Christie's August 2019 Interiors Sale. Drawing inspiration from the antique lots, the first CeCe Barfield Home collection features a range of tabletop items including hand painted china, table linens, and silver plated cups.
Many of the pieces in the sale, including a pair of tufted Victorian recamieres and a Louis XV lacquered tea table, reflect a cross-current of cultures that influenced European design in the 18th and 19th centuries. CeCe has reinterpreted these exotic design motifs. The table linens, produced by Istanbul-based Loulou la Dune, reference a pair of 19th century Paris Porcelain vases and feature hand-cut scalloped edges with Madeira embroidery. The silver plated cups, produced in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, reference a Palampore floral motif as well as a Delft garniture set from the sale. A hand-painted Palampore garland decorates the edge of the dinner and salad plates, which were produced in Milan by Laboratorio Paravicini. The collection’s rich palette of juniper, rose, smoky blue, and burgundy was inspired by an 18th century Chinese export famille rose charger, also found in the Christie’s August sale.
These hand-painted ceramic plates reference an antique French fabric with a traditional Palampore motif found on a pair of Victorian recamiers.
